Jewelry Making- Preparing And Cleaning Casting Crucibles
Hand-held casting crucibles are used for various casting techniques including cuttlebone casting, sand casting, straw casting, and water casting. A new crucible must be prepared before using it by coating the bowel and spout with borax.
Over time, a used crucible becomes coated with too much borax and the borax can cause problems while casting. If the collection of borax becomes too thick in the crucible, it can cause a clog at the spout, or even pour into your mold blocking the metal from entering. This course shows the process of preparing and cleaning the crucible.
